 The National Alliance Political Parties, a coalition within the Other Political Parties (OPP),on Saturday rejected the government-proposed inter-party dialogue in Juba, arguing that the process could be used to delay the country’s planned December 2026 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing journalists in Juba on Saturday, Kornelio Kon Ngu, Chairperson of the National Alliance, stated that they rejected the inter-party dialogue scheduled for September 24, calling it a tactic to postpone the December elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We, as the National Alliance, totally reject the inter-party dialogue and instead call for a return to the national dialogue, which should be conducted by the new government,” Kon told journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “We believe this inter-party dialogue is a tactic to delay the conduct of elections. They want to delay the elections by claiming that there is not enough time to organize them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He disputed the claim that elections are behind schedule, asserting that there is ample time to hold them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When we accepted the idea of inter-party dialogue, it was supposed to be conducted among the signatories to the peace agreement,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kon, who also serves as the Third Deputy Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, stated that inter-party dialogue is meaningless as the country enters a new chapter at the end of the transitional period and prepares for elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If there is going to be an inter-party dialogue, it should not be limited to a few political parties. It should be inclusive of all 34 registered political parties, which should be given an opportunity to participate.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kon, who is also the leader of the National United Democratic Front (NUDF), noted that parliament has already amended the constitutional provisions meant to be discussed in the dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The purpose of the inter-party dialogue was to come up with resolutions that would be incorporated into the amendment of the Constitution,” Kon said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“However, we have already passed the constitutional amendments, so I do not see any reason for holding the inter-party dialogue because its resolutions were supposed to be included in the constitutional amendment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He called for the postponement of the inter-party dialogue scheduled for September 24, deeming it meaningless at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For this reason, we consider the inter-party dialogue meaningless at this stage. The dialogue was also intended to enable political parties to agree on amendments to the National Elections Act, and we are expected to pass the National Elections Act on Monday.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dialogue is expected to provide a platform for political parties to deliberate on the political transition, the implementation of the peace agreement, and preparations for the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting comes amid growing calls from political parties and other stakeholders for an inclusive political process as the country approaches the end of the transitional period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
