{"id":531,"date":"2026-09-29T08:06:50","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T08:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedawn.com.ss\/?p=531"},"modified":"2026-09-29T08:06:51","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T08:06:51","slug":"journalists-trained-to-champion-localization-agenda-in-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thedawn.com.ss\/?p=531","title":{"rendered":"Journalists Trained to Champion Localization Agenda in South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"589\" height=\"486\" src=\"https:\/\/thedawn.com.ss\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-127.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-532\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thedawn.com.ss\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-127.png 589w, http:\/\/thedawn.com.ss\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-127-300x248.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Namisio Joy Bage, Executive Director for Young Women Christian Association (YWCA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Simon Deng<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 50 journalists in Juba have been trained to strengthen reporting and public understanding of South Sudan\u2019s Localization Agenda, with organizers urging the media to amplify community voices and promote greater local leadership in humanitarian and development processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oxfam, in collaboration with the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) South Sudan, trained the journalists on Monday as part of efforts to strengthen the Localization Agenda in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Namisio Joy Bage, Executive Director of YWCA South Sudan, said the roundtable discussion, which focused on strengthening localization, was aimed at ensuring that communities benefit from locally led humanitarian and development efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs a women-led organization, YWCA South Sudan strongly believes that women, girls, and communities must be at the center of all processes\u2014not simply as beneficiaries, but as leaders, partners, and problem solvers equipped with valuable knowledge and solutions,\u201d Bage said on Monday at the Crown Hotel during the opening of the multi-stakeholder open quarterly localization roundtable dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor us, localization is more than just shifting resources. It is about ensuring that local actors, communities, and meaningful voices are placed at the center of decision-making, leadership, implementation, and accountability,\u201d Bage added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quarterly localization roundtable, titled <strong>\u201cThe Role of the Media in Advancing the Localization Agenda in South Sudan,\u201d<\/strong> was held under the theme <strong>\u201cStronger Media Partnership for Locally Led Humanitarian Action in South Sudan.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ngbadurezare Michael Franco, Project Officer for YWCA\u2019s Humanitarian System Transformation through Local Humanitarian Leadership project, said the training aimed to explore how the media can actively contribute to advancing localization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Franco said YWCA is encouraging media practitioners to engage in open, honest, and practical discussions to identify concrete ways the media can help strengthen locally led humanitarian action in South Sudan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf localization is to succeed in our country, what can we achieve together as a united team?
