The officials from SSNBS made this call during the conclusion of the two-day standards inspection awareness campaign aimed to protect consumers from substandard goods.

“Whenever you are producing any product, it should comply with standards and even the raw material that you are going to buy, you ensure that the raw materials are in compliance with standards,” said Kenyi during the inspection in Juba.

SSNBS staff inspected Orotta Bakery, Phoenicia, Aguana water factory and shops in Konyo-Konyo market.

Kenyi stressed the need for factories to set up standard processing units and to ensure their workers comply with quality standards.

“So our visit today is to inform factories and the owners of manufacturing industries that standards are very important because it builds the confidence of customers,” he said.

For his part, David Patrick, deputy head of slaughterhouse unit of SSNBS said the inspection aims to ensure that the public consumes food that is not harmful to health.

Racheal Benjamin, head of marketing and inspections warned traders against selling counterfeit and damaged goods, adding they will be confiscated and dumped.

“We do routine inspection to see how they store the goods to protect our citizens from eating harmful products,” said Benjamin.

However, Louis William, the in-charge of Phenicia Supermarket in Juba said they always prioritize the health of their clients.

He thanked SSNBS for inspecting businesses every three months to ensure products meet quality standards.

In addition, Asmerom Neamen, owner of Orotta Bakery said they are meeting the standards required by the regulatory body.

“Now we are doing extra investment, we import our wheat flour from Turkey and we import mainly good quality wheat flour,” said Neamen.

The regulatory body was established to ensure that imports meet requirements of the technical regulations and applicable standards, to prevent importation of substandard goods.
