Cabinet directs education minister to table memo on illegal occupation of school land

The council of ministers has directed the minister of general education and instruction, Awut Deng Acuil to present a memo before it detailing illegal occupation of school land. This comes after Vice President for Service Cluster; Hussein Abdelbagi Akol informed cabinet that several pieces of land belonging to schools across the country have been occupied illegally.

The council of ministers has directed the minister of general education and instruction, Awut Deng Acuil to present a memo before it detailing illegal occupation of school land.

This comes after Vice President for Service Cluster; Hussein Abdelbagi Akol informed cabinet that several pieces of land belonging to schools across the country have been occupied illegally.

“After thorough deliberation, the council of ministers decided that the minister of general education and instruction presents a memo to cabinet on the same for thorough deliberation, and consideration of any other appropriate action that maybe taken in order to recover all the land in the Republic of South Sudan that belongs to ministry of education and other government institutions,” Michael Makuei t Lueth, the national minister of information told journalists after the weekly cabinet meeting held in Juba last week.

On 4 April 2023, Vice President for Service Cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol issued four-week ultimatum for people occupying school lands across the country to vacate.

 Akol issued this warning after finding illegal structures erected on land belonging to public schools across the country.

He said failure to adhere to the directive will lead to the demolition of the illegal structures erected on school land.
