Jonglei traders to drag Governor to court over contested plots of land

The Governor of Jonglei state Denay Jock Chagor will appear in court when served by the lawyer of two business men whom he stopped from developing two plots of land in Bor town.

The Governor of Jonglei state Denay Jock Chagor will appear in court when served by the lawyer of two business men whom he stopped from developing two plots of land in Bor town.

Kiir Chol Deng Acuil, the defense lawyer for the business men said he has been instructed by his clients to sue the Governor.

 “The purpose of buying two plots was to invest, they want to build some shops, they ordered building materials from Juba to Bor and unfortunately, the governor for one reason or the other issued an order suspending the construction on these plots,” he told Journalists after securing court sermon for the Governor at the court of appeal in Juba on Monday.

On 31 October 2022, two business men Jok Makuach Jok and Alier Manyang Ajak bought two plots of land in Marol market from Bor municipal council through an agreement witnessed by Deng Kuot Machar, the head of legal administration in Jonglei state.

On October 19, 2023, the governor of Jonglei state, Denay Jock Chagor formed an investigation committee to investigate the land agreement reached between the parties in Bor town.

“We have filed our case against the governor and the state government, the court issued temporary injunction suspending the order of the governor not to temper with the building process,” Acuil said.

He said his clients bought the two plots at a cost of 138,000 U.S dollars.

 “We ask the court to allow our clients to continue building, the high court has stayed this order and the governor issued another order to investigate the same matter pending before high court ,” Acuil said.
