The latest integrated food classification report released on Monday, notes that 7.1 million people will face acute food insecurity next year.

In addition, 5.8 million will face worse acute food insecurity in the same period.

The government and partners need to ramp up humanitarian support amid influx of over 350,000 people fleeing conflict in neighboring Sudan.

The food insecurity is driven by localized conflicts, climatic shocks and disruptions to multi-sectoral humanitarian assistance.

The government should not wait for humanitarian partners to fill in the gap but should think of concerted efforts with partners to build resilience.

South Sudanese need to be supported to start growing their own food in order to reduce on over reliance on food imports.

The government and partners need to invest in agriculture sector in order to build the capacity of local farmers to increase production. Doing this helps improve food security at household levels.

The World Food Program (WFP) is already doing wonders in flood-prone Warrap State, where farmers are growing and harvesting sweet potatoes, rice , cassava and vegetables.

These crops thrive in flood plains and this is what can be replicated in other parts of the country.
