TIKA donates desks, chairs to vulnerable school children in South Sudan

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) have donated school desks and chairs to Global Nursery and Primary School located on the outskirts of Juba.

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) have donated school desks and chairs to Global Nursery and Primary School located on the outskirts of Juba.

TİKA provided 150 desks and chairs to meet Global Nursery and Primary students’ needs.

Speaking during the handing over of the school desks and chairs on Tuesday, Erdem Mutaf the Turkish Ambassador to South Sudan said that they attach special importance to education.

“The Turkish embassy’s priority is child care, education and women empowerment so this is an example of the project of providing desks to this school, and this is not the first time we have been supporting different schools before, we are following to support more schools,” he said.

“This kind of support is a step by step and we hope to support more in the period ahead, we are trying to create conducive environment to the schools,” Mutaf added.

 He said that children are the future as long as they support them they support the future.

“When you support women you support the society, this project is very important to us we are doing our best in the future to do more”.

TİKA Coordinator in South Sudan, Abdullah Sari said that they have donated 150 desks and chairs to help the learners who have been lacking sitting materials.

“I am happy to be here and cooperate with Global Nursery and Primary School , I am also thankful  to Turkish  Ambassador for supporting the project and I am  hoping for the best in future to support more children,” he said

William Wol Wol, head teacher of the school said most of the children in the school are children of the martyrs and are really vulnerable.

“It’s a big appreciation to the Turkish people and government for the donation; it has not been easy for us in the school to get the tools to be used by the students in the school,” Wol said.

“Our children have been sitting on the stones and I am appreciating Turkish government, since the opening of this school nobody has provided desks to this school, this is the first time for us to have these desks donated by TIKA,” he added.

He said that 396 children are going to benefit from the desks and chairs donated by the Turkish organization.

Rita Kiden Benjamin, one of the pupils said that they have been sitting on the stones and others on the floor before the donation of the desks by TIKA.

She said it was previously difficult for the school to provide them with convenient sitting tools.

“I am really appreciating Turkish government for providing with us with this sitting tools, it has not been easy for us to have them, we spent years sitting on the stones and nobody come to rescue but finally we got people with good humanity today  and they have really rescued us,” Kiden said.

Central Equatoria state minister of general education and instruction, Crisio Zachariah Lado praised the Turkish government for creating conducive environment for learners.

“These things are very important to us and we will say thank you and our blessing to Turkish government, its their generosity to support our children who have been lacking school desks for long,” he said.
