Over 227 clergies from Aweriar Dioceses of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan have gathered at Yangkuei Archdeaconry for the annual conference.

The conference which began on Saturday is being held under the theme “We ask God to forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.”

It will feature bible expositions, reflection, worship, fellowship, and prayer sessions.

Rt.Revd  David Akau Kuol, Diocesan Bishop of Aweriar Diocese said the Diocesan clergy conference has brought together servants of God to worship, fellowship and prayers for peace.

“We always conduct this conference every year and it is for all the pastors to come together and have fellowship together, pray together, and also share the ministry together,” Bishop Akau told The Dawn in an interview.

He said the gathering is being attended by clergy from Jonglei Internal Province living in Aweriar as internally displaced persons to share the word of God together.

“We have 227 clergy in our diocese and you know that our diocese is hosting so many clergies from Jonglei Internal Province. We have some many clergies who have crossed the river to Aweriar following the crisis of 2013 and 2016,” Akau said.

“So, these clergies have been in Aweriar for the last few years and we included them in our ministry as a diocese and we are sharing the same ministry together and we have 35 parishes in Aweriar Diocese.”

According to the Bishop, the pastors will use two days to pray for peace, unity, and holistic ministry.

“We always come together to pray and ask our God to keep us in his Ministry as we have come to the end of the year, we also pray for peace among ourselves as church leaders and among our Christians in our Diocese of Aweriar, across the state and entire South Sudan.”

He disclosed that the conference will also discuss the future of the church in Aweriar Diocese.

“As our diocese has been one of the dioceses which have had some difficulties in the past years which brought division among the pastors and among our Christians,” Akau said.
