The Lakes state ministry of general education and instruction launched on Friday disbursement of cash for school girls under the Girls in Education South Sudan (GESS).
Nelson Makoi Makur, the state minister of general education and instruction, said that the cash transfers will motivate girls to remain school.
He said during the launch in Rumbek town, that the beneficiaries will be able to buy sanitary pads, uniforms, shoes and scholastic materials using the cash transfers provided by the British government, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Sweden.
Makur warned teachers and administrators to avoid mismanaging the cash meant for the girls.
The minister thanked the international donors for supporting girls’ education in the country.
Ayen Majok Deng, the state team leader for GESS II program, said that girls in 344 schools in Lakes state will receive cash money.
The cash transfers are being implemented by windle trust international organization across Lakes stat.
Girls in primary 5-7 and those senior 1-3 will receive 25,600 SSP, and candidates in primary 8 and senior 4 will receive 32,000 SSP.
Chol Majok Machut, the education director for Rumbek center said they will supervise the payments of the money to the targeted beneficiaries.
