President Kiir directs new police chief to ensure discipline within the force

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday directed the new police chief to ensure strong discipline and professionalism within the police force.

President Salva  Kiir Mayardit  on Friday directed the new police chief to ensure strong discipline and professionalism within the police force.

President Kiir was speaking while presiding over the swearing in ceremony of the new Inspector General of Police Gen. Atem Marol Biar and Presidential Advisor on Peace, Moses Gatkuoth Lony.

Atem replaced Gen. Majak Akec Malok, who has been in the police docket for the last 6 years.

The oath taking ceremony was administered by the Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut.

“What we are doing is shaping the way for us to move to one direction of building a peaceful, united and developed South Sudan,” President Kiir said in a statement published by the Facebook page of the presidential press unit.

The Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin encouraged the new officials to promote unity among the people of South Sudan.

The Minister of Interior, Angelina Teny expressed her ministry’s readiness to provide adequate security to the civil population.

The Deputy Minister of Interior, David Marial Gumke said the Police have a prime responsibility to provide a conducive environment for the citizens during election.
