The Governor of Jonglei State Denay Jock Chagor has vowed to crackdown on criminal gangs in the state.

He made this promise on Saturday during the music festival for peace and reconciliation organized by the state government in partnership with the UN Higher Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bor town.

“But within ourselves, we have some criminals and I want to say that somebody who is a criminal is always everywhere,” said Chagor.

He said all criminals will be held accountable for their illegal acts in the state.

“That is the work of our government to make sure that we don’t allow criminals to get away with crimes, and when it happens we will always be there to hunt them down,” Chagor said.

“So if you are a criminal, we will come for you and if you are making peace, we will make peace and we will be your peace partner,” he added.

Jonglei state has been witnessing recent spike in criminality particularly in Bor town.

The state has also been struggling to secure it’s border with neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area, where armed Murle youth often cross over to raid cattle and abduct children and women.
