Lakes state officials have urged senior four students who are about to sit for their final exams next month to desist from early marriage if they want to finish their studies.
Dr. Isaiah Akol Mathiang, deputy governor of Lakes state on Monday warned parents to stop forced marriages of their children.
He advised parents to provide their children opportunities to pursue studies in marketable courses such as medicine, engineering and law among others.
“The parents should not worry about cows and other resources spent on education, because investing in education will improve living standards of their children,” Mathiang said during prayers organized for students of LaSalle boys secondary school in Rumbek town.
Nelson Makoi Makur, the state minister of general education and instruction said that LaSalle secondary school was among the top ten best performing schools in the certificate of secondary education last year.
“The kind of education offered by LaSalle secondary school to the students is similar to the one being provided in the United States and United Kingdom,” Makur said.
Brother Obam Patrick, the principal of LaSalle boys secondary school thanked Nyang community for contributing land to church-based school.
“LaSalle is a boarding school whereby the entire staff and students of this school should attend Catholic prayers whether Muslim, Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) or other religions,” Patrick said.
Gen. Malek Ruben Riak, the South Sudan Ambassador to Zimbabwe said that the farewell prayers for 58 students preparing to sit for the CSE on December 4 will give them courage and success in their exams.
He appreciated the Governor of Lakes State, Rin Tueny Mabor and his government for stabilizing security in the once restive state.
