Apuk Youth Union Condemns shooting of Civilian by body guard of Warrap Governor

The chairperson of Apuk youth union in Juba, Barnaba Mou Ajang has strongly condemned the shooting incident on November 19th during peace rally that caused death of one person in Matiel area of Warrap state.

The chairperson of Apuk youth union in Juba, Barnaba Mou Ajang has strongly condemned the  shooting incident on November 19th during peace rally that caused death of one person in Matiel area of Warrap state.

The deceased Mariak Tong Ubang, was allegedly shot dead by one of the body guards of Manhiem Bol Malek, the Governor of Warrap state.

“As reported by the bystanders, Mariak Tong Ubang was killed by the bodyguard of the governor who came out of the armored police vehicle with a gun and moved closer to the deceased and shot him in the chest, thereafter, the perpetrator ran back to the armored police vehicle,” said the chairperson of Apuk youth union in a statement issued in Juba on Wednesday.

He said eyewitnesses tried to chase after the shooter, but he was protected by his colleagues as they fire bullets in the air to disperse the rowdy crowd.

Mou said that after the shooting melee the Governor and his body guards who included the shooter fled to Kuajok in a convoy.

“We denounce in the strongest term possible this heinous attack on an innocent civilian by the people who are supposed to protect him, this act shows disregard for human rights and rule of law under the leadership of Manhiem Bol Malek in Warrap state,” Mou said.

 He said they will continue to call for justice and accountability for the death of Mariak Tong Ubang.

 Mou said that a pregnant woman was also hit by one of the Governor’s car, adding that the victim is nursing injuries.

 “We call upon the Governor of Warrap state to take full responsibility to bring justice for the late Mariak Tong Ubang and the wounded pregnant woman,” he said.

However, the state minister of information Wol Mayom said the pregnant woman was hit by a vehicle not belong to the Governor of Warrap state. Mayom denied that one of the body guards of the Governor shot Mariak Tong Ubang, which he instead blamed on an armed youth from Gogrial East County
