The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Tuesday passed out 83 cadres who completed training course in external relations.

Peter Lam Both, the Secretary General of the SPLM while speaking during the ceremony held at the party’s headquarters congratulated the cadres for enduring and successfully completing the training.

He said the training program for external relations opened two years ago, adding that they have struggled to keep it running amid limited budget.

“I think that spirit of insisting and determination is what makes us unique as cadres of SPLM,”   Lam said.

He called on the trainees to share knowledge they have acquired with other party cadres.

“Some of you will utilize this knowledge to benefits the SPLM and yourself and others may abuse it, but the choice is yours. We have done our work as your leaders and secretariat and it is your chance to utilize it effectively,” Lam said.

Lam said the SPLM secretariat cannot employ every cadre because of limited resources and space, but advised the party cadres to work from wherever they are to deliver services to the people of South Sudan.

He also noted that the party’s role is not to go directly into providing services in critical sectors of the economy such as agriculture, building hospitals.

“The party does come up with policies and use the government machinery to implement those programs, that is what the party does otherwise there would not be any government,” said Lam.

Lam said the weakness within the SPLM party is that they have failed to provide guiding principles for the government because of it’s composition which includes accommodating various parties with divergent political ideologies.

“The peace agreement is what we are implementing now not the SPLM programs for development, that is the challenge because if we want to implement SPLM programs the other parties will say no,” he said.

Lam also said that the SPLM is gearing up for the upcoming election in December 2024 elections where they expect South Sudan to vote their leaders in free, fair and credible elections
