Civil society calls for inclusivity and support for people with disabilities

The South Sudan National Deaf Children & Youth organization has called for inclusivity of persons with disabilities in all kind of work and support across the country.

Josephine Kiden Simon, the Executive Director of the South Sudan National Deaf Children & Youth, said that they are helping the youth and vulnerable persons because they have been facing a lot of challenges.

She appreciated those who are supporting people with disabilities in the country.

Kiden said that they have also been training and supporting many people with disabilities.

She was speaking on Wednesday during a workshop organized with stakeholders on people with disabilities in Juba.

Kiden said that there are a lot of problems facing deaf people in the country, adding that these people have been ignored by society.

She said her organization is interested to know the challenges people with disabilities face.

“The reason why this organization was really developed is because we identified with the youth that we have a lot of challenges, and we have seen a lot of challenges in South Sudan, more especially the youth and then the children That’s why we really came up with this organization in 2021,”  said Kiden.

She said that some donors have really done a lot in terms of supporting people with disabilities.                     

Chandiga John, the Country Director for the South Sudan National Deaf Children & Youth, said that people with disabilities still face a lot of barriers in South Sudan especially when it comes to climate change.

He said they are the most affected people by climate change in South Sudan.

“When it comes to floods people with legs can walk away and people with disabilities can’t,” said John.
