The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) organized workshop, which resulted in development of an action plan to help end mistrust among civilians and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces in Yei River County.

Civilians in Yei River County have suffered seriously at the hands of some rogue soldiers of the SSPDF in the aftermath of the renewed violence in July 2016. Homes of civilians were erased just like those around the Juba-Nimule road.

In addition, rape cases have been reported in Yei River County particularly involving SSPDF soldiers. The soldiers have also been accused of harassment and other crimes.

The SSPDF top leadership was forced to act by court martialing some of the suspects implicated in the above crimes especially rape.

However, this does not mean that the victims will heal from the violations they suffered from those who are supposed to protect them with their properties.

The SSPDF and civilians will benefit immensely from the action plan  as it will encourage cordial relationship between the two sides.
