Lakes state urges UNDP to provide stationery and furniture to officials

The Lakes state minister of finance, planning and investment, Majok Anhiem Dhal has called on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to provide stationery and furniture to enable it’s institutions perform their duties.

The Lakes state minister of finance, planning and investment, Majok Anhiem Dhal has called on the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to provide stationery and furniture to enable it’s institutions perform their duties.

Dhal made this appeal on Wednesday during the closing of the weeklong economic conference held in Rumbek town.

He said independent commissions are struggling to procure stationery and furniture amid limited budget, adding that they are hoping for support from UNDP on these critical needs.

 Matiop Aguek Anyang, UNDP analyst on governance and economics appreciated the Lakes state government officials for holding the economic conference and also thanked particularly President Salva Kiir Mayardit for appointing Governor Rin Tueny who improved peace and security in the state.

 Sunday Ater Malith, the director general for cabinet affairs said the state does not have in place procurement guidelines and proper documentation.

However, he praised the state revenue authority for mobilizing taxes that have enabled the state leadership to provide services to the public.

Nikonora Makuer Nyinde, the director general for local government called for capacity building at institutional levels.

He also said procurement procedures and documentation of all public assets, monitoring and evaluation are critical for the state to perform effectively.

Riak Mayek Riak, director general in the ministry trade and industry, said the knowledge gained during economic forum will strength the capacity of staff in various ministries.
