The Chairperson of Warrap state Youth Union Santino Wol Aguer has called for the expulsion of the peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Interim Force for Abyei (UNISFA) accusing it of taking sides in the conflict between Dinka Ngok community and Twic Mayardit community.

“UNISFA cannot allow the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) to be deployed in the areas such as Southern Kiir,” said Aguer during consultative meeting attended by Warrap political leaders and intellectuals in Juba.

“We strongly need full evacuation of UNISFA forces to Abyei centre and we recommend the full deployment of SSPDF in the areas like Aneet, Anthony, Malual Alue to mitigate the conflict between Twic County and Abyei,” he added.

At least 32 people were killed in late November 2023 in deadly communal fighting between Ngok Dinka and Twic Mayardit armed youth.

The fighting which occurred in Wuncuei and Nyiel areas of Abyei Administrative Area displaced hundreds of people.

The two communities’ dispute ownership of land in Aneet area located at the border which separates them.

Aguer assured that youth in Warrap state are peace loving people who long to resolve the dispute through dialogue.

“We are hopeful that together with our government and all politicians in Warrap state we will bring durable peace to our people,” he said.
