The sudden death of veteran journalist and editor of Voice of America’s South Sudan in Focus Program, Charlton Doki Lonyong late Thursday this week is tragic.

The sudden death of veteran journalist and editor of Voice of America’s South Sudan in Focus Program, Charlton Doki Lonyong late Thursday this week is tragic.

He died in a motor crash along Munuki Bridge when the motorcycle he was on board crashed with another. His unfortunate death should awaken the traffic police to enforce traffic guidelines they put in place before more people lose their lives.

The menacing boda bodas need to be put in line as we head towards the festive season.

The police can enforce guidelines preventing motorists from driving on roads while drunk and also ensure that violation of traffic rules are penalized.

Doki’s death is a huge loss not only to Voice of America but the entire media fraternity and South Sudan his beloved country. Doki was an amiable character, kind, perfectionist and a workaholic who took seriously his job.

He was also a trainer who dedicated himself to not only training and mentoring young journalists but gave them opportunities to work for the Voice of America.

The deceased was one of the few senior journalists this country was proud of. His legacy should inspire many South Sudanese journalists to aspire for success in the ever demanding media environment.
