Government needs to speed up deployment of unified forces

The continuous intermittent violence being witnessed nearly on daily basis outside Juba should push the transitional government to immediately deploy and spread unified forces

The continuous intermittent violence being witnessed nearly on daily basis outside Juba should push the transitional government to immediately deploy and spread unified forces.

For example, the recent killing the deputy administrator of Abyei Administrative Area allegedly by armed youth from Twic community of Warrap would have been avoided if security had been deployed.

The killing of the deputy administrator with some of his body guards could lead to retaliatory attacks of the security vacuum especially at the border between Warrap state and Abyei Administrative Area is not filled.

Security cannot be promised and guaranteed with mere rhetoric but by serious actions. The situation could get worse as we head towards the election process.

The parties to the 2018 revitalized peace deal still have enough time to ensure the full training and deployment of the 83,000 unified forces across the country.

One wonders what could happen to the teams that will be undertaking civic awareness education on the elections, remembering a peace dialogue delegation was attacked by armed people a few years ago due to laxity in security.
