"We Dare where others fear"
South Sudan’s forests are under attack by encroachers who are seeking to benefit from charcoal business.
Specific species of valuable trees such as Balanite commonly known as Lalob and acacia gum Arabic tree are under threat from encroachers.
The government should not just sit back and watch as these very important resources are depleted by hungry people who seek to benefit while the majority suffer from effects of climate change.
The environment needs to be protected and this calls for creation of an independent body such as the national environment authority to handle matters to do with forestry and the environment.
This body when created will be supported by the national forestry authority, wildlife authority and the ministry of environment.
It is well known that the majority of the population South Sudan relies on charcoal for cooking and other use, and this is what is causing the appetite of felling down trees for charcoal.
South Sudan continues to suffer some of the worst effects of climate change in the form of heavy flooding, hot weather and also drought. The last or worst thing is to ignore the ongoing degradation of the forestry and the environment.
