The community of Panyon on Saturday held thanksgiving ceremony honoring the Governor of Lakes state for restoring peace and stable security since his appointment in 2021.
Governor Rin Tueny Mabor was gifted a bull by Tueny Daniel Deng Monydit, a member of the state transitional legislative assembly.
Stephen Mathiang Deng, state minister for cabinet affairs assured the communities of Amongpiny, Yirol East and Rumbek North counties of security.
He said that they have deployed enough soldiers to deter cattle raiders from neighboring Warrap and Unity state.
The thanksgiving ceremony to honor Governor Tueny came at the end of the three-day conference organized by Panyon community under the theme “unity and prosperity for all”.’
The participants at the conference discussed among many things the need for provision of safe drinking water, roads to the communities living in Amongpiny and Malek.
Poth Madit Dut, state Member of Parliament representing Rumbek Central County called on chiefs and community elders of Amongpiny Payam to promote peace and unity among youth.
Dr. Achol Ayom, deputy chairperson for the national HIV/AIDs Commission called Panyon and Agar communities to work together to maintain peace and also in the prevention of HIV/AIDs.
Lakes state is among the states with the highest HIV/AIDs prevalence rate in South Sudan.
Alek Malaak Atem, state advisor on gender, child and social welfare cautioned Panyon community to end early or forced child marriages that is contributing to the high maternal mortality rates in the state.
