Cabinet has ratified the Economic and Trade Technical Agreement signed between China and South Sudan in 2011.

Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services said on Friday, last week that they had not operationalized the agreement with Beijing over the years until when the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs presented it to cabinet in Juba.

The agreement between the two countries was inked on 22nd November 2011.

“The cabinet listened to a presentation from the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Ruben Madol on the ratification of the agreement on economic trade and technical cooperation between the Republic of South Sudan and the People’s Republic of China. It’s worth mentioning that this agreement was signed on the 22nd of November 2011, but it could not be processed all this time, could not be presented for ratification for so many reasons and today, it was presented to the cabinet, and the cabinet ratified the agreement with effect from today,” Makuei said while briefing journalists in Juba.

China and South Sudan established diplomatic relations for more than 12 years, according to Ma Qiang, the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan.

“We have always stood together through thick and thin and shared weal and woe,” he said.
