The Governor of the Bank of South Sudan (BOSS) Dr. James Alic Garang on Monday celebrated 100 days in office with significant number of milestones achieved.
Garang highlighted eight important milestones including development of a comprehensive bank modernization strategy, reorganization of the foreign exchange market, restructuring the bank’s structure, improvement of staff welfare among others.
“Dr. James Alic Garang has spearheaded the development of a comprehensive modernization strategy for the Bank of South Sudan. This strategy aims to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and technological capabilities of the bank, ultimately improving its services and operations,” said a statement issued by communication department of BOSS on Monday in Juba.
It said the governor reorganized the foreign exchange (FX) market which improves transparency, liquidity, and market dynamics.
“Dr. James Alic Garang has undertaken the restructuring of the Bank of South Sudan’s organizational structure to ensure that the bank can effectively deliver on its mandate and exercise better oversight over the financial sector. This restructuring is aimed at enhancing the bank’s regulatory and supervisory functions,” it said.
It added that governor has implemented new benefits and policies aimed at significantly improving the welfare of the staff that includes enhancing working conditions, provision of better healthcare benefits, and opportunities such as training for professional development and growth.
It disclosed that Garang introduced a merit-based system for staff promotions at the bank which recognize and reward outstanding performance, adding that he has also championed the implementation of innovative financial inclusion programs aimed at reaching underserved communities.
The Bank of South Sudan said that such innovative financial inclusion programs increase access to financial services, promote economic empowerment and foster inclusive growth across the country.
