Central Equatoria schools to reopen in February

Schools in Central Equatoria state will open for learners in February 2024, according to an announcement made by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction on Tuesday.

Schools in Central Equatoria state will open for learners in February 2024, according to an announcement made by the Ministry of General Education and Instruction on Tuesday.

 Cirisio Zakaria Lado, the Central Equatoria State Minister for General Education and Instruction said the reopening date is based on the national calendar from the Ministry of General Education.

“In the new academic year 2024, classes will start on Monday 5th February 2024 and end on 20th December 2024,” Lado said during press conference held in Juba.

Lado said that the first term will commence on 5th February and end on 10th May 2024.

He disclosed that the second term will begin on 27th May and end 6th September 2024, adding that the third term will then commence on 23 September and end on 20th December 2024.

Lado said that the candidates of primary eight and senior four will undertake their final examinations between November and December 2024.

For his part, Luate William Alex the Director General  for the State Ministry for General Education and Instruction, advised private school administrators to promote learners to the next classes based on their performance.

“As the schools are recruiting learners, let them look at the children’s performances and advise parents instead of focusing on money, making as much money as possible, particularly in private schools,” William said.

“For children who are not competent, who are not qualified and who have not met the requirements, please let them repeat and pass better or let them find a mechanism of asking these children to learn better,” he added.

Loro Nyiko, Director General of Examination for the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction said that the marking of primary eight examination papers will be completed within one week.

“The marking is still going on, it started on 8th January and I think now, it is going on. The first week is finished. We divided the marking into two groups, group A finished marking yesterday (Monday) and group two is going to start marking which will take one week and the papers will be handed over to control,” Nyiko said.

About 69,675 pupils including 28,575 males and 30, 9098 females sat for the Certificate of Primary Leaving Examination from 20th to 24th November 2023.
