Police in Lakes State have arrested a 6-year-old boy who shot and wounded a 24-year-old man in Rumbek Central County of Lakes State.
Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, Lakes State police spokesperson said that the incident occurred on 13 January at around 9:30 am in Tit-ruoch village.
“The incident occurred on 13th January 2024 at 9:30 am when a young man of 24 years released his cattle early in the morning for grazing at a nearby village and a 6-year-old boy came near to that young man who was sitting at his cocked rifle and they started a conversation and while they were still in conversing, the boy triggered the rifle leading to the shooting of the young man,” Mabor told The Dawn in an interview on Wednesday.
He said that the victim is nursing gunshot wounds on his buttock and hand.
“The victim sustained injuries at his buttock and his hand and so after the incident, the boy ran away and the young man fell down,” Mabor said.
The police spokesman said the incident triggered revenge attack which resulted in injuring of a 16-year-old boy.
“They even went and attacked leading to the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in his two thighs. The police received information and intervened to separate the two warring parties and the situation was controlled,”Mabor said.
He disclosed that the two victims are receiving treatment in Rumbek State Hospital.
Mabor said that the 6-year-old boy is being held at Rumbek Central Police State for protection.
“The small boy was granted security protection in a police station in Rumbek Central County. This is what happened and the security situation has now returned to normal,” he said.
