President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday  traveled to Kampala to attend the 19th summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

NAM is the second biggest global organization after the United Nations, comprising of 120 member states. It was founded in 1961 with a goal of fostering new ways of resolving global issues.

According to a statement on the Facebook page of the Presidential Press Unit, the Presidential spokesperson Lily Adieu Martin Manyiel said that President Kiir will also attend the IGAD Heads of States meeting to discuss political issues facing the Horn of Africa.

She revealed that the President will also participate in the G77 plus China Summit, which aims at boosting cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication and digital economy.

In August last year, the Minister of information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services Michael Makuei Lueth was quoted saying that cabinet directed the former Minister of foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Dau Deng to go ahead  with necessary proceeding for joining the Non-Aligned Movement.

Deng presented a report to cabinet last year in which he proposed that the government of South Sudan join the Non-Aligned Movement.

Makuei said that Non-Aligned Movement comprises countries which are not ideologically pro-west or pro-East.

NAM countries abide by the principle of neutrality and non-interferences in internal affairs of other countries.

Makuei said that cabinet approved the report of Deng Dau Deng on South Sudan joining NAM.
