The Vice President for Economic Cluster and SPLM First Deputy Chairperson, Dr. James Wani Igga on Thursday directed the Warrap State Governor, Kuol Muor Muor to disarm civilians in a bid to mitigate intermittent communal violence in the state.

Igga made this call during the swearing-in ceremony of the Warrap Governor, Kuol Muor Muor as the Chairperson of SPLM in Warrap state at a ceremony held at the party headquarters in Juba.

“Security first, for all that we do as long as there is no security, all other things are meaningless and in your state comrade Kuol, is the most hit of all the states by our people and not the outsiders which could have been controlled but every year it is slipping off our hands,” Igga said.

He said that civilian disarmament is the only option to stability in Warrap State, adding that the Governor of Lakes State Rin Tueny Mabor has set a precedent on civilian disarmament which other governors should emulate.

“Number one is let the people be disarmed, see Lakes state now, Lakes is stable. It has been disarmed and I think it is like heaven on earth. Honestly, one has to give big credit to Governor Rin Tueny Mabor for the stability he has brought because he started first with security,” Igga said.

For his part, Daniel Awet Akot, SPLM Deputy Chairperson urged Governor Muor to embark on a mission to secure his people from killing each other.

“To my governor of Warrap, you only have four points; number one is to go and secure your people and number two, let them be peaceful, number three, unite them and number four, use the book (Green book) that you produced and pass it to the parliament for approval and start your work,” Awet said.

Kuol Muor Muor, the Governor of Warrap state vowed to mobilize people to join SPLM and restore peace and stability.

“Some people wear Red T-shirts and caps in the daytime and at night, they are not SPLM. We have to identify them seriously and you can get them through their talk and even their face, the way they talk, you can get and good enough I am a security man, I will deal with them there,” Muor said.

Warrap state has witnessed communal and sectional conflict over the past years.

Over a hundred people were reportedly killed during the protracted communal conflict which escalated to the burning of houses and cattle raiding.

Though local authorities severally attempted to contain the violence, revenge and night attacks still happen although the state government has referred to these as isolated cases.
