"We Dare where others fear"

The Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani has urged President Salva Kiir to establish committee to implement his recent presidential order calling on the security forces to clamp down on leaders inciting communal violence between Twic community and Ngok Dinka of Abyei.
“This Presidential order on Twic Mayaradit-Abyei conflict resolution will totally be violated like the Presidential order on the return of cattle. It is essential that political leadership in Abyei and Kwacjok undertake proactive act of informing the leaders of the armed youth groups,” said Yakani in a statement issued in Juba on Saturday.
Yakani condemned the violation of the presidential order following violent attacks on Anyiel Kuac Boma of Twic Mayardit County and the killing of three civilians and a soldier in Achoum-Choum area of Jur River County of Western Bahr el Ghazal state.
“These acts demonstrate clear attitude of undermining and lack of adherence with the Presidential order, these practices are getting common like how presidential order on the return of cattle was undermined till it died a natural death,” he said.
Yakani said that if no immediate response is taken by the political leadership on the violent incidents in Anyiel Kuac Boma of Twic Mayardit County and in Achoum-Choum area of Jur River County it will render the Presidential order ineffective.
“These acts are not free from some elites influence, armed youth cannot on their own without some influence from somewhere carry out such attacks, now the prevention of revenge is required from the armed youth of Anyiel Kuac Boma and Achoum-Choum area of Jur River County,” he disclosed.
He added that such incidents of violence pose serious threat to the upcoming general election in December 2024.
“It is a high time state government and local government institutions are empowered to proactively engage in mitigation and prevention of deadly communal violence,” Yakani said, adding that communal violence is on the rise across the country.
