The Mayor of Juba City Council Flora Gabriel Modi on Wednesday said she will redouble her efforts in revenue collection to fund government projects.
“Juba City Council is having a lot of challenges, especially in resources. Through the policies we are going to work hard so that we raise the income or taxes so that we can have enough money to fund our projects,” Gabriel said.
She was speaking during the opening of the Juba City Legislative Council in Juba.
Gabriel said that they will embark on resource mobilization in a bid to fund projects that the city council plans to implement.
“Economically, we have a lot of challenges but we will try our level best as city council to boost revenue collection so that we can go and do our mandate as city council,” she said.
She said that they have started opening internal feeder roads, construction and maintenance of bridges, culverts and lighting streets within Juba.
Gabriel said that they have started the demolition of buildings stationed in unauthorized spaces including those in the road reserve and also buildings built on school land and government reserve land.
She also revealed plans to embark on the development, reorganization and transformation of the markets within Juba city.
Gabriel said that they are also engaging the South Sudan Urban Water Corporation to identify and establish fair water prices, adding that they are talking to the water utility to support the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in extending water connectivity into residential areas.
The Mayor also pledged to implement their vision of keeping Juba clean, green, beautiful and safe.
