The Warrap Ministry of General Education and Instruction has cleared 10300 off the payroll after years of paying salaries to these absent teachers.

Acuil Malei, the State Minister of General Education and Instruction told The Dawn on Sunday that they have already replaced these ghost teachers from Boma, payam and county level.

“We need to eradicate corruption in the state ministry of general education and instruction in Warrap state, we must replace unqualified teachers with qualified teachers to ensure that the quality of education improves in 2024, Malei said.

He said that since his appointment in 2023, he found many ghost teachers on the payroll, adding that these teachers never stepped in the classroom to teach at any time.

“Some of them (ghost teachers) are in the NGos and military and other institutions but they were receiving salaries as teachers,” Malei said.

Malei said that they are cooperating with education supervisors at payam up to county level to ensure that all teachers on the payroll are not ghosts.

“We will go visiting schools and conducting roll call for teachers and if we don’t find that the teachers we have appointed are not in school then will we deal with the head teachers,” he said.
