Eight passengers including two children have been confirmed among the dead in Monday’s deadly motor crash in Yirol West County after a Landcruiser collided with a fuel tanker.

Eight passengers including two children have been confirmed among the dead in Monday’s deadly motor crash in Yirol West County after a Landcruiser collided with a fuel tanker.

Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the police spokesperson for Lakes State said that the incident that occurred at Madbar left nine passengers critically injured.

 He disclosed that the Landcruiser belonging to a business company was travelling from Aweil to Juba with about 18 people on board before it collided with a fuel tanker.

Mabor said that the injured were rushed to Yirol State Hospital for treatment.

“The deceased were not known by their names but in the investigation process we later managed to identify their names,” he told The Dawn on Tuesday.

“The wounded were evacuated to Yirol Hospital for treatment. We are still waiting this morning for an update from the hospital about condition of the wounded,” Mabor said.

Dr. Riak Amuor, the medical officer for Yirol West County said that among the dead included the driver and three women and two children.

 “Eight people passed on immediately at the scene of the accident and they include 3 females, 3 males and 2 male children. In total 5 males and 3 females passed on immediately in the incident site including the driver,” Amuor said.

He said that a 10-year old boy whose mother died in the accident is in critical condition in Yirol hospital after he sustained head injuries.
