The violence in Tharkueng market between Apuk community of Gogrial East County in Warrap state and Marial Wau of Jur River County in Western Bhar El Ghazal state, left 16 people killed and several others wounded.

The two communities have since 2017 been disputing  land in what the Dinka of Gogrial East County refer to as Manyang and Nyin Akok  while the Jur River Community also claim the same areas.

The fighting between these two communities first erupted in August last year and yet till now no concrete solutions have been provided to end the dispute.

As the country prepares for elections there will be need to demarcate boundaries. The question begs whether the two communities will accept the demarcation of these two disputed areas.

This particular dispute should be an eye opener to the national government because similar disputes are bound to happen in different geographical areas.

The transitional unity government needs to prepare to tackle such disputes ahead of the elections in December this year, because failure to do so could spark more violence even during election period.
