The electoral committee for the South Sudan Basketball Federation (SSBF) has set stringent conditions for candidates planning to participate in the general election scheduled for February 19, 2024.
Bak Athian Bak, the returning officer for the SSBF electoral committee on Wednesday said that the aspiring candidates should have four years of experience in managing basketball.
“Pursuant to the ministerial order no.1/2024, the persons who are aspiring to contest for the position of president, secretary general and secretary of finance shall fulfil the following: South Sudanese nationals, reside in South Sudan, literate and have at least four years of experience in basketball administration,” Bak said during a press conference held in Juba.
Bak added that the aspiring candidates must not be subject to a ban imposed or extended by any sports association affiliated with FIBA and also must pay non-refundable candidacy fees.
“The candidates aspiring for the presidency of SSBF will pay 4 million South Sudanese Pounds, the secretary general will pay 2 million SSP and the secretary of finance 1.5 million SSP,” he disclosed.
In addition, Bak said that candidates applying for these positions should not have a record of having been convicted of any crime against the state.
According to him, the delegates will arrive on February 17, 2024, and the elective annual general meeting will be conducted on February 19, 2024.
