The ongoing repairs on Ibba Bridge that links Yambio and Ibba areas in Western Equiatoria State have been completed  since the bridge collapsed in 2023 following heavy flooding.

Peter Atem Ngor, Managing Director of Rhino Stars Company hired to construct  the Ibba Bridge said that they will soon open the bridge for motorists and passengers.

“The Ibba Bridge is now complete and will be opened anytime to public to resume their business without difficulties, we thank our citizens for their patience and also thank the national ministry of roads and bridges and also the state minister of roads and bridges of Western Equatoria State for their cooperation with us,” Ngor told The Dawn in an interview on Friday.

The public has endured nearly three months of waiting for the bridge to be renovated. Rhino Stars Company also renovated Nyamlel Bridge in Northern Bahr El Ghazal State which had collapsed due to flooding.

Ngor revealed that some of the surplus culverts will be provided to some NGOs to support communities that need such services in Western Equatoria State.

“We thank Save the Nation for the support they gave to Rhino Stars Company to build the bridge,” he said, adding the work was a bit difficult due to the fact that they had to set up alternative route for the public as they worked on Ibba Bridge.

Ngor disclosed that their next work will be on a bridge in Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria State.

“There are no vehicles moving from Magwi to Loboni and from Loboni to Parjok, but the community called us to come and fix the bridge,” he said.

Ngor asked the government for security for his staff as they work on Magwi Bridge and the potholed road.

He said that transported their machines to Magwi County, adding that work on the road and the bridge is on progress.

“I will not leave our South Sudanese suffering when I have those machines that can do the work, there is no need for our people to suffer when our government is there, we have discussed with the national and state government, MPs and the community. I will not  be happy if I see my mother dying in Magwi  because of labor and yet there is a road for ambulance to take her to the hospital, we repairing that road with whatever I have to make sure my people in Magwi have access to wherever they want to go,” Ngor said.

“What we don’t want now is the tribalism and the Acholi community have assured us that they don’t want tribalism because the road belongs to South Sudanese not only people of Magwi or Eastern Equatoria, its going to help to ease the movement of people and security forces who will be providing protection to the people,” he added.

“We will continue to work on the roads and bridges whenever we are called, whether money  is available or  not we will not let our people suffer, what I tell my people of Magwi is to keep the peace and everything will be done on the road,” Ngor said.

He called support from world wishes such that construction of road is finished on time

He said that the work has kicked off already and about 16 kilos are already clear
