The Executive Director for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) Edmund Yakani on Sunday condemned the fighting in Nasir County of Upper Nile State that left one person killed and two injured along Torjuoch River.

“CEPO strongly condemns the ongoing fighting between civilians and the South Sudan Defense People’s Forces. This is unacceptable act from the SSPDF and the leadership of the SSPDF should take serious measures against this misconduct and indiscipline behavior of some of the SSPDF soldiers and their leaders,” Yakani said in a statement issued in Juba. \

It revealed that the SSPDF on Saturday attacked the fishing community in Torjuoch River and killed one civilian and wounded two others.

It added that soldiers attacked cattle keepers in Dàwech kuanylual Thoan that ignited the clashes in Nasir County.

It urged the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) SSPDF to preserve security ahead of the December 2024.

“A number of civilians have been displaced and some houses were burnt by SSPDF, specifically near Presbyterian Church in Nasir Town around the river side near to an old building of MSF,” Yakani said.

“State governors and county commissioners are losing total control in disciplining soldiers across the country, the political leadership of the country should now realize the negative implications of low payment and of delay of deployment of the unified army,” he added.

He said that there is ongoing forceful displacement of civilians by the SSPDF in Nasir County.

Maj.Gen Lul Ruai Koang, the spokesman for South Sudan’s People’s Defense Forces when contacted said that he was not aware of the clashes between the army and civilians in Upper Nile state.
