The chairperson of Ajiek  Youth Association for Development (AYAD) in Yirol East county, Peter Mapuor Makur has dissolved the executive body and appointed the electoral committee to pave way for peaceful elections.

“We have conducted the last executive meeting, in the last three months we have been engaging with members of the general assembly, it has come a time in which we need to hand over the leadership,” Makur told journalists on Saturday at Mauna Classic Hotel in Juba.

“We have heightened the threshold for some important positions in the association, the chairperson as demanded by law must be somebody with a degree and aged 30 years, and the secretary general must be somebody with a diploma and age 30 years,” he added.

Makur revealed that the general assembly nominated a 15-member council, adding that the general assembly has also veted and approved the 5 member independent electoral committee appointed by the chairman.

He disclosed that the 5-member independent electoral committee chaired by Makuach Wut Thong with Kot Achol Thuc as the secretary general included Nyidheng Maker Jur as a female representative.

“When we were tasked of leadership, there was no constitution in place, the leadership which handed over was an interim body without constitution, now we have the constitution in place,” Makur said.

He said that his association has invested in football to achieve peace and unity.

Makur said that the football team known as Pentagon United is taking part in sport tournaments at the state level.

“We have to ensure we hand over the leadership, the constitution is very clear, the next leader who will take over leadership will have no excuse to stay in leadership for more than two years,” he said.

The event was graced by the community elder Bishop Gabriel Roric Jur and advocate Malou Ayang who swore in the independent electoral committee of the Ajiek Youth Association for Development.
