"We Dare where others fear"
The government needs to speed up the graduation and deployment of the remaining unified forces before election slated for December 2024.
In August 2022, nearly 53,000 unified forces made of police, army, wildlife, prisons and national security services were passed out but majority of them are not yet fully deployed.
Even those deployed are not being seen to be effective by the civilians who continue to live in fear and uncertainty amid the growing communal clashes.
For South Sudan to assure its citizens, the region and international community of it’s capability to transition the country from conflict toward sustainable peace and stability, there is need to complete the security arrangements on time.
For example, How many forces does the government have available to guard voters ballots, oversea peaceful registration and sensitization of voters on the upcoming election.
This question and more must be answered by the leaders entrusted by the regional mediators to guide the country through the current transitional period.
Politicians must know that their safety and that of their voters matters more than the perks, which they will receive during election campaign or after the election.
