The newly appointed Mayor of Rumbek town in Lakes State, Akhol Manyang Magom on Monday took oath of office in the presence of Governor Rin Tueny Mabor.
Manyang replaces his predecessor Peter Maliap Chieny.
Governor Mabor during the swearing ceremony urged Manyang to tackle criminal gangs and also regulate alcohol abuse in the town.
Manyang was also asked to ban illegal gambling games that have rendered youth idle and redundant.
In addition, Mabor directed the Mayor to engage the private sector to support small businesses to grow in the State.
Manyang was also advised to cooperate with state government officials and the civil population to ensure that the state prepares well ahead of the upcoming general election in December this year.
For his part, Mayor Manyang promised to work hand -in -hand with the State government to achieve peace, security and development.
He praised Governor Mabor for appointing youth to government positions, adding that Rumbek municipal council will provide job opportunities for youth.
Manyang also pledged to reorganize markets within Rumbek town municipality.
