"We Dare where others fear"
The latest report by the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan recently submitted to the before the 52nd Session of the Human Rights Council has angered the government.
The report currently being discussed by members of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, starting from 26 till February 5, notes that armed conflict and gross human rights violations persist in the country, which the government has vehemently denied.
The only solution for the transitional unity government is to speed up the implementation of the pending tasks within the revitalized peace agreement. This will help convince the international community including the United Nations that the country is in position to hold free, fair and credible elections in December 2024.
Media reports have recently been reporting rise in inter-communal violence and also tensions and clashes among especially the opposition SPLA-IO and the SSPDF in Unity State.
This is something the peace partners need to address head on if they are to be believed by their own citizens and the international community.
