"We Dare where others fear"

China’s top political advisory body, the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, opened its annual session on Monday in Beijing.
Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the opening meeting of the second session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, held in the Great Hall of the People.
Wang Huning, Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee to the session during the opening.
He said that the CPPCC has actively carried out friendly exchanges with organizations, officials and academicians from other countries to help create a favorable external environment,
Wang said that since early last year, the CPPCC National Committee and its affiliated institutions have organized 23 batches of visits to exchange and interact with more than 200 institutions in 50 countries, established new contacts with 41 foreign think tanks and 12 non-governmental organizations,
“The Committee and its affiliated institutions have held three activities inviting foreigners including foreign diplomatic envoys in China and senior visiting scholars to visit CPPCC auditorium in Beijing,” he said.
The second session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC), the country’s legislature and highest organ of power, and the second session of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, the country’s top political advisory body, are set to take place this week.
As both bodies hold their yearly meetings at the same time, they are collectively called the “Two Sessions”.
The advisory body starts its session a day or two earlier than the legislature, in order to hold consultations and make policy recommendations. Provincial, prefecture, and county level sessions are held before the national level meeting.
The sessions are held in the Great Hall of the People on the west side of Tiananmen Square in Beijing. CPPCC members include experienced politicians, celebrities, experts and scientists from various areas, as well as representatives of various social groups.
