"We Dare where others fear"

The Archbishop for the Reform Church of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan Dr. Gabriel Roric Jur on Monday called on political leaders to embrace peace, unity and dialogue ahead of the general elections scheduled for December 2024.
Gabriel while speaking during the conclusion of the two-day 12th Bishops Synod of the reform church in Juba, called on the political leaders in the transitional unity government to unite their voices and reach consensus on the implementation of the outstanding tasks within the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.
He said that the church supports holding of the elections and also calls for peace and development of the country.
He appealed to President Salva Kiir Mayardit to improve the security situation before the elections are held.
“The church is calling for security to guarantee safety for ballot boxes and also in case of disagreement which may take us back to war,” Gabriel said.
He advised the government to deploy organized forces to provide security to the citizen to enable them to vote for their leaders without fear and threat to their lives.
Gabriel also called on the U.N. Security Council to consider lifting the arms embargo and sanctions imposed on government officials and individuals close to the government, adding that this will enable the government to conduct peaceful, free and fair elections in the country.
“Lastly reform church of the Episcopal church of South Sudan is praying hard for the President, so that God gives him courage, strength, good health and wisdom to overcome this situation, so that he may lead us on the right path of peace and everlasting life for justice and development of the country,” he said.
