Government should do something about the weak pound

The South Sudanese Pounds has hit its lowest value against the U.S. dollar of late, as it is exchanging for about 1800 SSP with the dollar.

The citizens are getting frustrated with the run-away inflation as majority of households have seen their savings wiped out very fast.

The situation if it continues further could lead to public unrest which would not augur well for the shaky transitional unity government.

Several government officials have come out to address the public on the rising cost of living, but they have not been convincing on the solutions forward to remedying the problem.

Since 2012 the SSP has been depreciating against the dollar and yet several attempts to rectify the problem have failed to work be it the devaluation of the pound, weekly auction of foreign exchange e.t.c.

The problem seems to be hinging around corruption and speculators. This should prompt concerned institutions of the government to take drastic measures to tackle these two issues above. The situation could get worse in the coming days as some people are already predicting the Zimbabwe scenario here
