The Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi on Thursday said that In the face of complex turmoil in the international environment, China will persist in being a force for peace, stability and for progress in the world.

“The world landscape today is undergoing profound transformation, and human society is confronted with multiple challenges. In this changing and turbulent international environment, China will remain a staunch force for peace, stability and progress of the world,” Wang told journalists on the sidelines of the Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing.

Under China’s Constitution, the NPC is structured as a unicameral legislature, with the power to amend the Constitution, legislate and oversee the operations of the government, and elect the major officers of the National Supervisory Commission, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Central Military Commission, and the state.

Wang said that they resolutely oppose all acts of hegemony and bullying, and will strongly uphold national sovereignty and security as well as development interests.

“China will stand firmly on the right side of history and on the side of human progress, and will advocate for veracity to peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit,” he said.

Wang revealed that China will strive to safeguard world peace and development as it pursues its own development, adding that Beijing will make greater contributions to world peace and development through its own development.

He urged Washington to fulfil its promises and work with Beijing to stabilize bilateral ties.

“Peaceful co-existence is the baseline, because conflict and confrontation between two major countries like China and the U.S have unimaginable consequences. Win-win cooperation is the goal, because when working together, China and the U.S can do great things conducive to the two countries and the world,” Wang said.

He reiterated China’s support for Palestinians when asked about the ongoing conflict in Gaza, saying Beijing supports full United Nations membership for a Palestinian State.

“The catastrophe in Gaza once again reminded the world that the fact that the Palestinian territories have been occupied for a long time can no longer be ignored,” Wang said.

“The long-cherished wish of the Palestinian people to establish an independent country can no longer be evaded, and the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinian people cannot continue for generations without being corrected,” he added.
