"We Dare where others fear"
The Christian Agency for Peace and Development (CAPaD) Bor team with support from Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) organized a one-day campaign against tribalism and gender inequality in Bor Town of Jonglei State.
This activity attracted a large number of people from suburbs around Bor town. The goal was to raise awareness among the youth and women of Bor town on the importance of gender equality and to fight against tribalism, which has divided the youth into tribal bases and political lines following the 2013 and 2016 civil wars.
The activity has been successful in raising awareness among the community and received positive feedback from the community stake holders such as the leaders. The #ANINASAWA message has positive outcomes as it preaches social cohesion and equality regardless of sex and diversity in cultures and backgrounds in South Sudan. The community leaders challenged the public and civic institutions to take lead in uniting the communities of Jonglei State, emphasizing that togetherness as brothers and sisters is our greatest strength. They also urged public to consider treating humans equally in public life, citing that being a male or female doesn’t matter when it comes to employment, education, sports and other sectors.
The community expressed desire to hear more messages on peace, unity and gender equality in Jonglei State citing that taking a stride toward a peaceful South Sudan will need us to embrace the spirit of brotherhood as opposed to negative values such as tribalism, all of which have drawn a big dividing line within our communities.
The campaign covered a distance of 4800 and was a successful step towards promoting peace, unity, and equality in the region.
