The recently relieved Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba John Akec has thanked President Salva Kiir for giving him an opportunity to serve in the higher institution of learning for ten years.

“It was a great honour for me to serve as the Vice Chancellor of University of Juba, our premier national university, for ten years,” Prof. Akec said in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday.

He thanked President Kiir for the confidence, opportunity and support provided to him to serve at the helm of the university.

“Like anything else, good things have endings. I would like to thank the Chancellor for trust and support over the last decade,” Prof.Akec said.

“I am also deeply grateful to everyone who supported and cheered me up morally and materially which allowed me to come this far,” he added.

Akec congratulated the new Vice Chancellor Prof. Robert Mayom Deng Koriot and wished him success.

“Life is too short to spend in one position. It is right time to move on, and allow other colleagues with fresh ideas,” he said.

On March 8, in a republican decree read on Friday evening on SSBC, President Kiir relieved the Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof. John Akec and other four Vice Chancellors of four Public Universities.
