The Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands on Wednesday called on the government to ensure meaningful participation of women in decision making at all levels of government.

Roseline Gama, the Gender Officer at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in South Sudan said that peace and security is crucial for women to be able to participate in issues that affect them in the country.

“We need to work together looking at important things in terms of women inclusion, we are also talking about women protection and women economic empowerment and women participation in leadership,” said Gama during a ceremony organized by Care International to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Abel Whande, the Country Director for Care International said that there is need to invest in women, adding that women economic empowerment will bring changes to their families and communities.

“Women economic empowerment is very dear, I believe if we work together to build network for women empowerment, we are going to have a great level of impact in South Sudan,” said Whande.

“We are talking about financial inclusion, about decision-making on financial resources at the household levels, the financial institutions need to think about investing in women,” he added.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 calls on States to increase the participation of women and incorporate gender perspectives in all United Nations peace and security efforts.

Resolution 1325 also affirms the importance of the participation of women and the inclusion of gender perspectives in peace negotiations, humanitarian planning, peacekeeping operations, and post-conflict peacebuilding and governance.
