The Central Equatoria State government on Wednesday shutdown 15 fuel stations which do not meet requisite safety standards.

Mawa Moses, the State Minister for Roads and Bridges said they have shut down the fuel stations that were recommended to them.

“So far, this morning, we have closed down 15 fuel stations including this one (M.O Abdi) and we are going to do more,” Moses told journalists during inspection exercise in Juba.

The development comes after the Governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony formed a committee in 2023 to assess the safety of all fuel stations in Juba. The Governor also raised concern over the mushrooming fuel stations in densely populated residential in Juba.

“We will review the previous recommendations and we will make sure that if there are other fuel stations that are confirmed that they are dangerous to life of our people, we will close them,” said Moses.

He warned the owners of the affected fuel stations not to reopen them without authorization, adding that they will take action against those who defy.

“We want to advise all the owners of the fuel stations that have been closed not to open them because if they open there will be measures that will be taken against them,” Moses said.
