By Simon Deng
At least 11 people have been killed and 10 others wounded on Saturday during cattle raiding incident in Gogrial East County of Warrap State.
Maluach Lueth, the County Commissioner for Gogrial East County told The Dawn that the suspected cattle raiders blamed for the incident in Wagich area of Toch East Payam came from Mayom County of neighboring Unity State.
“Yesterday at around 9 A.M, the cattle that were grazing were attacked by armed youth from Mayom County of Unity State and that attack resulted in the killing of 11 people and 10 people wounded,” said Lueth.
He revealed that over 600 cows were raided by the attackers, adding that this was the third incident of cattle raiding by suspected rustlers from Unity State in the last two years.
Lueth said that the swampy Wagich area is used for grazing by the population in Boya, Biong and Nyarmong payams of Gogrial East County.
He revealed that the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) was in pursuit of the cattle raiders, adding other soldiers have been deployed along the border to intercept the raiders.
“We are coordinating with authorities of Mayom County to make sure the culprits are apprehended and the cows recovered and returned to the rightful owners,” said Lueth.
Our attempt to contact Luka Chierey the Commissioner of Mayom County for comment were futile by press time as he failed to pick up his phone.
