The ongoing three-day conference between the Dinka Malual and Messiriya of neighboring Sudan comes at a critical time when the fighting in neighboring Sudan is forcing many people to cross to South Sudan.

The two communities have for long been having agreements that pave the way for migration of pastoralists with their livestock. However, this relationship has not been without violence and that is why the meeting of the two communities is essential for border security.

South Sudan is currently hosting more than 500,000 people including both returnees and refugees.

The ongoing conflict in Sudan has put pressure on the scarce resources in the host states such as Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Upper Nile and Unity States.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) should be commended for organizing the peace conference between these two communities.

The resolutions reached at the conference which ends on Sunday will go a long way in mitigating misunderstandings and conflict between the two tribes.
